When generative AI tools can instantly produce essays, source code and reports, evaluating a student’s final artifact alone is no longer a definitive measure of what they know and can do. By focusing on how students think, navigate complex challenges and iteratively revise their understanding, we can help ensure we are grading student understanding rather than the work of AI tools.
