Teaching Matters

Conversations About What Works in Learning

What does effective teaching look like, and how do we know when students have learned? Educators wrestle with these questions every day. You design courses, respond to students, and refine your practice, but often do this work without the benefit of talking with colleagues who are asking the same questions.

The Teaching Matters series offers a structured space for those conversations. This learning community brings together educators from every rank and discipline who want to examine the relationship between teaching practice and student learning. Each meeting features focused discussion grounded in peer-reviewed evidence and prompts for reflection. Participants will explore concrete strategies, compare approaches across contexts, and consider how shared ideas can strengthen teaching across the university.

How it Works

Teaching Matters will meet virtually five times during the spring 2026 semester to discuss selected readings from the scholarship of teaching and learning, exchange ideas and collaboratively begin documenting insights to inform future programming.

Instead of a fixed reading list, the group will determine readings and discussion topics together, ensuring every conversation reflects the real challenges and opportunities you're facing in your teaching right now.
