Call for Proposals: Human Connections in a Digital World

This event is a partnership between the Delphi Center and the Learning Commons, including REACH, the University Writing Center, University Libraries, and the Digital Media Suite.

Human Connections in a Digital World is a new peer-led symposium that brings together speakers from across the university to discuss how humans remain central to our academic work and beyond as generative AI increasingly transforms the world.

Students are already using AI, often in ways we don't detect. Faculty report uncertainty about how to respond. Rather than approaching this challenge through policing and detection, this symposium explores how different disciplines are redesigning learning to make human thinking visible and valued.

The event will be held virtually from May 12-May 14, 2026. Registration will open in late March.

We invite you to learn more and submit to our Call for Proposals today.

The proposal submission deadline is Friday, March 13.

Proposal Expectations

This symposium will explore how different disciplines and campus units are keeping human learning central as students increasingly use AI tools. We want to hear from:

  • Faculty redesigning assessments to require human judgment and disciplinary expertise
  • Staff supporting students in developing critical thinking about AI use
  • Researchers studying student behavior and learning outcomes
  • People with concerns about AI's impact on education, equity or academic integrity
  • Campus partners collaborating on holistic approaches to student learning

We especially encourage proposals that:

  • Share discipline-specific approaches rather than generic AI strategies
  • Present authentic assessment examples that students cannot complete with AI alone
  • Address the reality of widespread student AI use without relying on detection
  • Raise critical questions about AI's role in education
  • Connect AI integration to established pedagogical principles
  • Represent perspectives from across campus (not just early adopters)

Please note: This is a peer-led symposium rather than a vendor showcase. We are looking for sessions that focus on pedagogy, student learning, and faculty development – not promoting specific tools.
