Fundamentals of Effective Facilitation
The Fundamentals of Effective Facilitation (FEF) program is an alternative to the Foundations of Impactful Teaching (FIT) program for educators at UofL who are responsible for facilitating online courses that have been developed or designed by someone else.
Participants who complete the FEF program will receive a modified version of the online teaching credential that applies only to online course facilitation and does not address online course design or development. If you have online course design and development responsibilities, please plan to complete the Foundations of Impactful Teaching (FIT) program.
Participants in the FEF program will complete the review of six online, asynchronous modules and six reflective activities. They will also meet with a member of the Delphi Center instructional design team to discuss services and support available to those with the online teaching credential and to address any questions or concerns about online course facilitation.
Planning When to Complete the FEF Program
The FEF program is offered as a SharePoint-based resource. Participants do not need access to the Blackboard Learning Management System to complete the program. If you are in the hiring process and want to begin the FEF program before the process is complete, please feel free to register. Graduate students and other educators who are preparing to teach a course at UofL for the first time are also welcome to join the FEF program.
The FEF program has a rolling registration window so you may register to participate at any time. You can expect to receive access to the training portal within one week of registration, with the exception of during university closures.
Anticipated Time Commitment for Participation
Past participants report spending 3-5 hours working through the modules and associated reflective activities. There is no time limit for completing the FEF program. Once you have access to the training portal, you are welcome to proceed at your own pace. The meeting with an instructional designer is usually scheduled for one hour.
If I Complete the FEF Program, Will I Earn UofL’s Online Teaching Credential?
Completers of the FEF program will receive a modified version of the online teaching credential that applies only to online course facilitation and does not address online course design or development. If you have online course design and development responsibilities, please plan to complete the Foundations of Impactful Teaching (FIT) program.
