Join us for an engaging fall term book club dedicated to Mind over Monsters: Supporting Youth Mental Health with Compassionate Challenge by Sarah Rose Cavanagh. Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the book. We request participants attend each of the scheduled sessions this semester.
This four-session book club meets for one hour each time to discuss how the practice of compassionate challenge can foster more empathetic and effective support for students. Participants will explore strategies from the selected text, examining ways to encourage resilience, accountability, and academic growth in a manner that acknowledges students’ diverse experiences and challenges.
By the final session, attendees will have gained insights on crafting supportive learning environments that gently push students to excel while respecting their individual needs. The group’s discussions and reflections will provide practical takeaways for implementing compassionate challenge in diverse instructional contexts, ultimately strengthening both student engagement and performance.
This book club will meet virtually over Microsoft Teams on the following dates from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
