Accessibility Certified UofL Webmaster Training

The Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning, the Office of Communication and Marketing and the Information Technology Web Team are conducting training that addresses universal design and standards, best practices in web development, the use of the UofL site-building tool and web accessibility compliance.

Studies have found that nearly 20 percent of the population have some kind of disability, including many types that make accessing the Internet more difficult. Higher education institutions have a responsibility to accommodate the varying abilities of their users. With the increasing use of online and distance education, web accessibility is becoming a high priority. This is particularly true in Kentucky as it is state law to have any public websites accessible.

Web Accessibility 101- Standards & Guidelines

This session will explore many of the common types of disabilities that web developers and faculty who use Blackboard should be aware of and how the principles of universal design may be applied to assist everyone. It addresses issues and barriers to building an accessible site that any user can visit, fully understand, and completely interact with. Through a combination of presentation and directed discussion, participants will be prepared to raise awareness and begin the process of developing and delivering effective websites and web-based instruction. (2.5 hours)

Web Accessibility: Construction of Accessible sites

This session provides an overview of how to create accessible HTML content using UofL's site building tool/content management system, called Plone. It also offers information on creating an accessible PDF file, Word document and PowerPoint presentation. Prerequisite: Web Accessibility 101 (3.5 hours)
