UofL's Virtual Writing Center (VWC), was created to reach commuters and distance education students who need help with their writing. The Virtual Writing Center's goal is not simply to help students improve a single paper; rather, VWC consultants strive to help students become better writers. The VWC is a real-time chat space similar to other chat or instant messenger programs.
The VWC offers students a 50 minute session with a consultant that meets through Blackboard's "Virtual Meeting" feature. This option allows students and their consultant to discuss the text via Blackboard's chat function while both are sharing it through Blackboard.
To make an appointment, email the Virtual Writing Center or drop into the Virtual Meeting during the Virtual Writing Center' s hours.
This option is best if . . . Students live too far from campus to visit the University Writing Center in Ekstrom Library and have access to the internet.
A note to first-time users: Plan to come to your first appointment a few minutes early. There is a very quick Flash Plug-in that you will need to download.
