CEE 560 - Traffic Engineering Characteristics of the vehicle, the driver, and the traffic stream. Highway and intersection capacity, theory of traffic flow, parking, traffic safety. Prerequisite: CEE 360 or 460 (Transportation Systems Engineering).

CEE 561 - Environmental Analysis of Transportation Systems I An examination of the various impacts that transportation systems and projects may have on the natural and human environment. Areas of study include noise, air quality, and water resources. Relevant laws and regulations, as well as quantitative prediction models, are thoroughly considered. Prerequisite: CEE 360 (Transportation Systems Engineering) or 460 (Transportation Systems Engineering).

CEE 562 - Geometric Highway Design Development of concepts of geometric design for rural and urban highways. Topics include: design criteria; sight distance; horizontal alignment; vertical alignment, cross-section elements; highway types; intersection design; interchange design; grade separation; highway safety; and drainage design. These concepts will then be applied using state-of-the art proprietary design software. Prerequisite: CEE 560 (Traffic Engineering).

CEE 563 - GPS Theory and Application This web-based course is designed to introduce the student to the theory of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and how this technology is utilized in Civil Engineering field applications. The course is delivered via the University of Louisville Blackboard Learning System web interface. Prerequisite: CEE 260 (Civil Engineering Field Measurements) and 460 (Transportation Systems Engineering).

CEE 565 - GIS Applications to Transportation This course is designed to introduce the CEE student to the technical and philosophical use of GIS in the transportation engineering profession. An overview is provided of current methods of implementing GIS solutions to highway data analysis and planning studies. Prerequisites: CEE 260 (Civil Engineering Field Measurements) and (360 or 460: Transportation Systems Engineering).

CEE 664 - Fundamentals of Intelligent Transportation Systems Overview of the complete Intelligent Transportation Systems field. Elements of traffic flow theory, incident/emergency management, dynamic route guidance, in-vehicle systems, and traffic signal systems. Prerequisites: CEE 560 (Traffic Engineering) & 660 (Transportation Planning and Urban Development).

CEE 665 - Pavement Design Design of flexible and rigid pavements, base courses, and sub-grades. Effects of loading on pavement life. Prerequisites: CEE 360 or 460 (Transportation Systems Engineering). and CEE 450 (Geomechanics).
