Online Master of Science in Human Resource Education
Program Description
The Master of Science in Human Resource Education focuses on training and workplace performance problem solving applied in a variety of job settings. Courses examine strategies to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of an organization's human resources. Students learn ways to identify and "bridge the gap" between potential and actual performance. Interventions may include training and/or solutions such as organizational climate change, ergonomic alignments, and knowledge management. Critical skills are managing projects, managing change, and evaluating the result. Application of technologies to support learning and performance are considered. The Human Performance Improvement competencies (ASTD, 1999) are the basis of the program. Career Opportunities
Graduates of this program are employed in training development, instructional design, human resource, and workforce development roles. The program prepares them to be instructors in their specialization area, developers of performance improvement interventions, improvement process evaluators, and leaders of human resource projects. It is designed to prepare or enhance individuals for a mid-level training and human resource positions in business, industry, health, military and education organizations. This degree is NOT acceptable for renewing a teaching certification or obtaining a Rank II salary status for Certified and Secondary Teachers.
Admission Requirements
- Evidence of a Bachelor's Degree and 2.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA.)
- Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work
- General Test score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) of 800 (verbal + quantitative)
- Two letters of recommendation
- Completion of Application for Admission and payment of a $50 non-refundable application fee.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language ( TOEFL ) is required of all foreign students from countries in which English is not the native language. Applicants holding a baccalaureate or advanced degree from an accredited college or university in the United States are exempt from the TOEFL requirement.

ELFH 600 - Introduction to Research Methods and Statistics (3 credit hours)
Critical examination of research in education. Emphasis given to historical, empirical, and experimental methods of research; to techniques of research design and statistical analysis; and to skills in writing reviews and critiques of research literature.
ELFH 605 - Leading Training and Performance (3 credit hours)
Study of the modern theories of leadership, organization, management and administration of workforce training and performance improvement, with relationship to organizational management functions. Prerequisites: Ability to send e-mail, use a word processing program, and do simple searches.
ELFH 611 - Performance Improv. in Human Resource Development (3 credit hours)
Systematic approach to developing human resources in a work environment with emphasis on individual, process and organizational level performance improvement and integration of performance improvement techniques in human resource development.
ELFH 616 - Internship and Portfolio Seminar (3-6 credit hours)
Covers three components: development of a professional portfolio, a supervised professional work experience in activities related to the student's masters program and professional goals, and a presentation of the student's portfolio with reflection upon growth in the program to an authentic audience.
ELFH 661 - Adult Development and Learning (3 credit hours)
Study of current cognitive, psychomotor and affective theories and their application to training programs in industry. Required for the M.Ed. in Occupational Education.
ELFH 662 - Organizational Analysis (3 credit hours)
Examination of the process and techniques used to conduct an organizational task and person analysis and to identify training needs in a non-school environment.
ELFH 663 - Methods of Facilitation (3 credit hours)
Development of the presentation skills needed to conduct training programs in non-school settings. Focus placed upon the difference between teaching and facilitation of adult learning. This course is required for the Master of Education in Occupational Training and Development.
ELFH 672 - Instructional Design and Development (3 credit hours)
Emphasizes systematic processes for the design and development of instruction with application to education and training. Current theory and research on instructional design and development, in accordance with principles of teaching and learning.
