Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Courses

Unless otherwise specified, all classes meet from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the University of Louisville's Shelby Campus. 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. for 4-hour classes.

Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response

Hazardous Waste Operations 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Site Worker

This course is for those who plan to work at hazardous waste sites that expose or potentially expose them to hazardous substances and associated hazards.

8-Hour Hazardous Waste Site Refresher

This 8-hour annual refresher is for individuals who have successfully completed the 40-Hour course to maintain their certification.

(Prior attendance in 40-Hr Site Worker required)

8-Hour Hazardous Waste Site Supervisor

This class is for those responsible for the activities of employees working at a hazardous waste site.

Emergency Response 40-Hour Emergency Responder-Operations/Technician

This course combines both levels of emergency responder training. It is for those individuals who plan to respond offensively to stop a release.

8-Hour Emergency Responder Refresher

This annual refresher course is required to maintain certification as an emergency responder either at operations or technician level.

16-Hour Incident Management System

This course is for individuals assigned to exercise command and control during a HAZMAT emergency. NIMS compliant.

Prerequisite: Operations or Technician Level training prior to attendance.

8-Hour Incident Management System Refresher

This annual refresher course is a requirement for On-Scene Incident Commanders in addition to their annual refresher requirements for operations and technician level training.

4-Hour Personal Protective Equipment

This course is designed to ensure adequate practice with appropriate personal protective equipment that may be used in emergency response or remediation of hazardous materials.

4-Hour Evacuation Coordination

This course is for workplaces where some or all employees will evacuate in case of emergency.
